LG GC900-Connectivity, Calling & Messaging

Google

The LG Viewty Smart is a Quad band GSM 850/900/1800/1900 handset. It also supports 3G and HSDPA 900/2100 bands. The phone has a front camera for video calling. It also supports GPRS/EDGE, Bluetoooth v2.1, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, A-GPS and USB connectivity.

The call quality and network reception on the phone were good and gave no problems. Other connectivity features also worked fine. However, the Wi-Fi strangely could not be used to stream videos and you would have to use the slower (and expensive) GPRS/EDGE or 3G to for that. Also Wi-Fi could not connect automatically to the previously connected hotspot when Wi-Fi was activated and you have to manually select one after activating it.

Messaging on the Viewty Smart was fine for most parts. The phone supports SMS, MMS and Emails. However, the email client could only download attachments up to 1 MB in size, which restricts its usability. But by far the biggest problem is the on-screen QWERTY, which comes into play when you rotate the phone in landscape mode. The keypad is small and inaccurate and you have more chance of hitting the adjacent keys than the one you want. I found that the standard phone keypad that is available in portrait mode is best for typing.
